Advancing Renewable Energy: Key Outcomes from the Energy Days by the PROGRESS Project
The EUKI funded project PROGRESS (PROsumer Governance for Renewable Energy Sustainable Systems), aims to enhance the governance of renewable energy systems and empower local communities across Europe. Through initiatives like the „Energy Days,“ the project facilitates knowledge sharing and the development of energy communities, promoting sustainable energy solutions. Three significant events, known as the Energy Days, were organised in Brasov (Romania), Livorno (Italy), and Szombathely (Hungary), each addressing the challenges and opportunities associated with renewable energy and community engagement.
- Brasov Energy Days 2026 (May 27-28, 2026): Hosted by the Brasov Agency for Sustainable Development, this event gathered local authorities, NGOs, energy experts, and citizens. The discussions focused on developing energy communities in Romania, highlighting best practices such as the Brasov One Stop Shop and the Micasasa Digital Energy Community. Participants exchanged experiences with representatives from Italy, Hungary, and Serbia, emphasizing the need to overcome legislative barriers. A significant outcome was the signing of a declaration for establishing the Vama Buzaului Renewable Energy Community, strengthening local commitment to sustainable energy initiatives.
- Energy Day in Livorno (April 20-23, 2026): This initiative aimed to promote the SAVE Renewable Energy Community through a series of public meetings. The event informed residents and local organizations about the benefits of joining the community, with thematic discussions on agrivoltaics and shared energy solutions. The involvement of public institutions ensured transparent governance and community stability. The event successfully recruited new members, enhancing local engagement in the energy transition.
- Hungarian Energy Days 2026 (June 18-19, 2026): Organised by the Vas County Government Office, this event fostered collaboration among local authorities, energy experts, and citizens. Key topics included energy poverty and the integration of renewable solutions in multi-apartment buildings. Interactive activities engaged students in energy awareness, while workshops provided practical insights for condominium representatives. The event reinforced the importance of trust and collaboration in achieving an effective energy transition.
In summary, the Energy Days highlighted the significance of collaboration among local stakeholders, the sharing of best practices, and the establishment of community-driven renewable energy solutions. Each event contributed to building a stronger foundation for sustainable energy governance and community participation across Europe.
