Dear friends of climate action in Europe, Do you work in transport, media or for a municipality? Then you should watch and share our new EUKI videos on European climate action: Three short films showcase challenges related to sustainable mobility, climate awareness and municipal climate action and offer practical solutions, presented by EUKI-financed projects. Learn more about the featured projects and read the latest news about the most recent European climate activities: Do you know the town of Sztum? After three years of close collaboration with 34 municipalities and 57 schools from seven EU countries, the “BEACON” project concluded with the highly influential BEACON Toolkit for Local Climate Change Mitigation. With funding from EUKI, BEACON supported the Polish city of Sztum in joining the Covenant of Mayors and in refurbishing nine municipal buildings in an eco-friendly way. The Climate-wins: New LED lighting systems were installed, new roof-top photovoltaic panels produce zero emission electricity. More than 120 renewable energy systems have been installed in local households. The activities in Sztum alone reduce over 1000 tons CO2 emissions - per year. Municipalities across Europe now build on the experiences BEACON has made in the past three years: they use an EUKI-financed Toolkit to mitigate greenhouse gases, and to measure their successes. Congratulations to the team! New kid on the block: RENALDO promotes energy cooperatives in Poland. Representatives from the Polish and German governments and the European Commission set the stage for an ambitious new initiative: Vitalizing rural areas through renewable energy in Eastern Poland. State Secretary Anna Gembicka emphasized that renewable energy plays an outstanding role not only in protecting the climate, but also in developing rural areas. We can’t wait to see the energy cooperatives in the regions Podlaskie and Kuyavia-Pomerania growing. Are you looking for cooperation partners yourself? Do you want to develop a climate action project in a certain country? Are you looking for experts in Climate Policy or Renewable Energy? Our new EUKI Community List may serve you as a European climate action business directory. Make use of our large network of climate activists across Europe and read more about their projects below. Yours Sincerely, Stefan Bundscherer Director of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI)
