UPGREAT: Renovation following the Passive House Concept
The UPGREAT project works to upgrade professionals’ skills for deep renovations which are needed to sustainably transform the buildings sector to fulfill high energy and low carbon emissions standards.
GreenTecLab: Knowledge Pills
The EUKI-funded project GreenTecLab (GTL) has published 13 Knowledge Pills around the topic of green entrepreneurship to support young potential founders in their search for green project ideas. So far, 13 Knowledge Pills have been published in English, Greek, Spanish and Slovak.
UPGREAT – Training Tool for Efficient Schools
The project upskills construction professionals in Greece and Cyprus for deep energy efficiency renovations of school buildings.
Bringing Climate Action to the Table
The project team reases awareness on sustainable diets through gamified and participatory activities in Spain, Slovenia, and Greece.
Pedalling against Climate Change
15 organisations from Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Poland and Slovakia each developed 5-11 national and municipal policy recommendations for climate-friendly cycling policies as part of the Cyclurban project. All recommendations were accepted by the national authorities in the partner countries. The project has shown that despite common elements in the respective strategies, cities need to adapt existing methods and measures at the local level to make cycling a main pillar of climate-friendly mobility.

Taking Just Transition to the Next Level
More than 500 representatives from EU institutions, coal regions, companies, trade unions and NGOs gathered at the “EU Coal Regions in Transition Platform”. During the event, the EUKI project “Regions and Municipalities for a Just Transition” lifted the curtain for the findings of three reports on coal regions in Poland, Bulgaria and Greece. Project implementer WWF presented figures on jobs at risk and showed EU decision-makers the great potential for creating new jobs.
Unlocking Low Cost Renewables
The study “Unlocking Low Cost Renewables in South East Europe” by EUKI financed project “South East Europe Energy Transition Dialogue” demonstrated how a few political and financial measures can help to strongly “de-risk” investment in renewables. Its cost could be lowered by stunning 20%. For example, the cost for onshore wind could fall to 46 EUR/MWh in Greece, well below the cost of fossil power plant projects. The de-risking measures with the highest impact include the EU budget guarantee mechanism, reliable, long-term renewables remuneration regimes and long-term renewables targets. The recommendations were discussed with decision makers both bilaterally as well as during a final project workshop in June 2021.
According to the analysis by EUKI project “South East Europe Energy Transition Dialogue”, the solar PV market in the South East Europe region is on the cusp of a significant transformation.
GTL Start-ups from Crete in the Ruhr Area: Experience exchange for transition
From the community

The 5 winning projects of the GreenTecLab project in Crete visited the Ruhr Area together with the project partners from Athens and Heraklion. The Heinrich Böll Foundation Greece made this trip possible for the green founders. The aim was to get to know a region that needed to develop new perspectives and ideas during the structural change, to meet companies with which cooperation would make sense or who would pass on their experience and to get to know the start-up scene of the Ruhr area. The visit was inspiring and will support the start-ups in their development. We would like to thank the Heinrich Böll Foundation, the Ruhr Hub, the Impact Hub in Essen and the Gründer Zentrum Triple Z, the Science Park Gelsenkirchen, the IKKE in Duisburg and a lot of companies in the Ruhr area who will support the Start-ups. We are sure that in this way we can initiate new European networks that will help start-ups and support the impact of their ideas in the local, regional, national and international environments.
