Affordable and Sustainable Energy for a Clean European Industry

EUKI project “Strengthening Ownership of Climate Policy in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE)” lives up to its name. It improves the CEE policymakers’ understanding of the EU climate agenda and the benefits of climate action.

The briefing addresses the urgent need for affordable, sustainable energy and industrial decarbonisation in the EU. Reasons for that need are high energy costs, fossil fuel dependence, and climate neutrality targets as the EUKI project points out. The EUKI project analyses in the briefing the Clean Industrial Deal, Affordable Energy Action Plan, and State Aid Framework, assessing their impact on energy policy, competitiveness, and decarbonisation. The briefing focuses on national challenges like coal dependence and energy price disparities in the Czech Republic.
It concludes that Czech energy affordability and decarbonisation require national action, like phasing out coal, and EU-level support to expand renewable energy. The EUKI project recommends faster implementation of EU tools and strategic use of available funds.
