Challenges and Opportunities for Reducing Methane Emissions in Romania
EUKI project Integrated Approach to Methane Emissions Abatement facilitates the development of integrated methane mitigation plans in Lithuania, Poland, and Romania by equipping representatives from government, industry, civil society, and research with knowledge, tools, guidelines, and tailored policy options. Through baseline assessments and sector-specific workshops, the project identifies key emission sources and strengthens national capacities to design integrated methane mitigation plans in line with EU climate goals.
The publication “Challenges and Opportunities for Reducing Methane Emissions in Romania” provides a practical framework to reduce methane emissions in the energy, waste, and agriculture sectors. It examines key emission sources and identifies major barriers. These include outdated infrastructure, fragmented farming systems, limited financing, and insufficient monitoring. The guidelines highlight systemic challenges such as weak regulatory implementation, low technical capacity, and gaps in data and measurement. It also outlines opportunities, including improved technologies, better waste management, and stronger cross-sectoral coordination.
