Climate Action Plan for Agriculture for the City of Križevci

dflip

EUKI project SOFI – Smart Organic Food Initiative raises awareness of agriculture’s impact on climate change and promotes climate action through education, networking, and policy integration, fostering sustainable food systems in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Germany.

Inadequate soil management is one of the reasons for climate change, with agriculture causing according to some estimates up to 37% of CO2 emissions. At the same time, today’s agriculture is mostly conventional and as such not sustainable because it rapidly consumes key resources that have been “on reserve” for a long time due to this way of production. The goal of the SOFI project is to initiate new, environmentally friendly decisions and solutions in the agricultural sector through education, the creation of climate action plans for Križevci and Travnik, research on the impact of local agriculture on climate change and the potential of ecological agriculture and biodiversity on the residents of Križevci and its surroundings. The present climate action plan for agriculture for the city of Križevci represents the most important outcome and benefit of this project for the local community and is also the first such climate action plan for agriculture in Croatia. Importantly, it includes proposed measures for different target groups: municipalities, producers, farmers, and consumers.

This climate action plan is written in English and Croatian language.
