Farming (In) Peatlands

EUKI project Building a European Peatlands Alliance aims to establish a comprehensive and enduring European alliance of national governments and stakeholders committed to peatland climate action.

This brochure aims to inform stakeholders in the field and raise awareness about strategies for peatland restoration by addressing the primary concerns and gaps identified by farmers. It highlights barriers to sustainable peatland use, funding opportunities, and policy needs, serving as a reference guide and a recommendation for future initiatives. Insights were drawn from the workshop “Peatlands in Agricultural Areas”, held in November 2023, as part of the “Building a European Peatlands Initiative”. This workshop brought together land managers, policymakers, and conservation experts to discuss scaling up peatland restoration and sustainable management.
