Focus Paper Peatlands with Paludiculture

dflip

EUKI project Landcare Europe promotes climate-friendly farming in Germany, Lithuania, Romania, Croatia, and the Czech Republic. It develops policy recommendations for future CAP measures and organises workshops, field visits, and farmer training to strengthen carbon sequestration in agricultural landscapes.

The “Focus Paper on Peatlands with Paludiculture as Natural Carbon Sinks” highlights the role of rewetted peatlands in climate protection. It presents paludiculture – productive farming on wet peatlands – as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining agricultural use. The paper outlines environmental benefits such as carbon storage, biodiversity protection, and improved water management, and stresses the need for supportive policies, CAP recognition, and financial incentives to support farmers in the transition.
