Report: Recommendations on the Future CAP and Climate Policies

Agriculture is a crucial, yet often neglected, piece in the puzzle of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, as defined in international agreements. The study by the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and BirdLife Europe shows that the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the European Union and the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) lack attention to climate action in agriculture. The report also shows that greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in agriculture are more complex than in other sectors, as they largely include gases other than CO2, with different warming impacts and atmospheric lifetime. The challenge is enormous and the answer must be comprehensive and ambitious: All sectors, including agriculture, must contribute. In this way, the CAP could become a strong lever for climate action.
