To fight the climate crisis, the European Union has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. A fundamental step on that road is phasing out coal. Therefore, the WWF European Policy Office is calling for EU countries to phase out their coal power by 2030 to fight the climate crisis and uphold the Paris Agreement. This report from WWF based on input from national consultants, takes an in-depth look at the clean job creation potential in several coal regions like in Eastern Wielkopolska, Poland; Megalopolis, Greece as well as the biggest Bulgarian coal region Stara Zagora. This publication by WWF was published under the framework of EUKI project Just Transition Eastern and Southern Europe and points out how lost coal jobs can be replaced by sustainable new jobs while preserving the environment.

Climate Action Connecting Europe – EUKI Brochure 2021
The second part of the brochure presents the diverse EUKI projects on the eight EUKI priority topics, such as energy, mobility or climate-friendly financing. For each topic, the brochure presents individual lighthouse projects and interviews with those involved on the ground.

With the Fit for 55 package, the European Union is embarking on a deep transformation of its economy which, in turn, will imply profound changes for society. The social acceptance of the package is therefore fundamental to the upcoming negotiations as well as the successful implementation on the ground. In the briefing „Fit for society – benchmarks for a social ’Fit for 55’ package”, E3G proposes five benchmarks alongside concrete recommendations for strengthening the social dimension of the Fit for 55 package. The E3G- Third Generation Environmentalism Briefing was published within the frame of EUKI project Energy Transformation Debate in CEE and points out directions how the EU climate goals can be achieved by considering social factors.
Fit for Society – Benchmarks for a social ’Fit for 55’ Package
In 2018 the European Commission’s Clean Energy Package acknowledged the right of local communities and citizens to play an active role in the energy sector by defining “Energy Communities”. During the last years, in Albania, several efforts have been made to sustain economic development and meet the commitments of EU standards and legislation as regards energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) implementation. This study by Milieukontakt Albania was published under the framework of EUKI project EUCENA and lays out the regulatory framework for citizens energy communities in the country.

Despite increasing efforts to mitigate climate change, the problem of global warming cannot be solved by governments alone. It requires the participation of everyone of us. This booklet from EUKI project “Sustainaware” by Institute for Health and Environment aims to make you ready to become part of the solution to the global warming problem. It contains all the necessary (and more) information about the causes and effects of climate change. Furthermore, at the end of the booklet, you will find a list of suggestions for what you can do personally to protect the environment and our society.
WTF is Climate Change?
This report provides recommendations for the Conference on the Future of Europe (CFE). Under the EUKI project “EU Climate Action Dialogue”, think tanks from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Romania, and Poland make suggestions on how EU climate policy and the Conference on the Future of Europe can be mutually beneficial. In general, climate policy is an example of advanced citizen engagement, and it provides lessons on how the EU can successfully shape the international agenda. Moreover, climate policy also provides numerous examples of what the EU can achieve when it acts together. With differentiated targets and support mechanisms, climate policies illustrate how the EU can give Member States flexibilities, while ensuring coherence and level playing fields in the EU. The CFE could help frame climate policies as what they should be for the EU – its hallmark.

Climate Change Challenge – A Comic Book by EUKI Project BEACON
Inspired by actions on the ground in BEACON municipalities and schools, this book seeks to convey the spirit of European collaboration and exchange on climate change to a wider audience of school children and adults alike. The story of Sofia and Gabriel was created and brought to life by author Bruno Pinto, Illustrator Quico Nogueira and colorist Nuno Duarte. The book was made possible by Guidehouse as part of the BEACON project.

This is the second volume, which is the methodological toolbox or teachers’ manual containing the descriptions, worksheets, and templates for all practical exercises with the students. All exercises have been tested in Bulgarian schools.
This publication by the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture (LfL) and the University of Novi Sad Faculty of Technical Sciences addresses farmers, ministries, and professionals in the fields of renewable energies, agriculture, and environmental protection, as well as the general public. Its purpose is to inform these target groups about the importance of small biogas plants for mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from animal husbandry. The brochure explains why small biogas plants matter, what impact manure has on the environment, what the challenges and benefits of biogas plants are, and finally offers two examples of good practice. While including general facts and figures about animal husbandry, manure potentials, GHG emissions from livestock, the publication focuses on the biogas sectors in Germany and Serbia.
