As part of the EUKI-funded project Climate Bridges – Network in Action, the Urban Research Institute and its regional partners invite you to join Breathe Clean! – a cross-border day of action on 25 September 2025, dedicated to tackling air pollution and protecting public health in the Western Balkans. Taking place in Tirana, Pogradec, Librazhd and Berat (Albania), Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Nova Bila (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Pula (Croatia), Skopje (North Macedonia), and Podgorica (Montenegro), the campaign brings together citizens, policymakers, civil society, and local actors to raise awareness, share solutions, and strengthen cooperation on one of the region’s most pressing environmental challenges.

Topics

Coinciding with World Lung Day, the campaign calls attention to the severe health impacts of air pollution, particularly on children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups. Each city will host tailored local events that reflect their specific environmental priorities while remaining linked through live interactions that underscore regional solidarity and shared goals.

From public workshops and youth bike parades to intergenerational conversations and community-led panels, participants will engage with a wide spectrum of actions, voices, and perspectives.

Programme Highlights

  • Tirana: Open dialogue between scientists, citizens and decision-makers on air quality and climate resilience

  • Sarajevo: Intergenerational activities raising awareness of air pollution’s health impacts

  • Pula: Interactive workshops and public discussions centring community voices

  • Skopje: Youth-led Clean Air Bike Parade and green mobility initiatives

A detailed schedule of events will be published on the Climate Bridges website in early September 2025.

Registration

No registration is necessary – simply turn up at one of the four locations and take part in this unique regional initiative.
