Climate and Organic Farming – An Introduction

In recent years, it has become clear that the effects of climate change are also increasingly noticeable in Central Europe. Agriculture plays a dual role here: on the one hand, as a source of greenhouse gases, it is partly responsible for global warming. On the other hand, it is particularly affected by the effects of the climate crisis, mainly due to increasing extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall or droughts.

During the event, we will discuss the connection between climate change and agriculture in more detail with Dr. Cathleen Frühauf from the “Deutscher Wetterdienst” (German Weather Service). Afterwards, Dr. Jürn Sanders, Chairman of the Executive Board of “FiBL – Forschungsinstitut für bioglogischen Landbau” (The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture) in Switzerland, will highlight the advantages that organic farming brings to the system. Additionally, two farmers will report on what practical measures for adapting to climate change might look like.
