Development of Energy Communities in Slovakia: Potential and Barriers

SAPI – Slovak Association of Sustainable Energy, the implementing organisation from the EUKI project 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 – 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲, is preparing another unique event, this time focused on Energy Communities. The concept of Energy Communities is still relatively unknown in Slovakia and, compared to other EU countries and the region, is not yet so well developed. SAPI’s aim is to introduce and explain what is important for establishing an Energy Community in Slovakia.

At the workshop, SAPI will present a draft of a unique document—The National Guidelines for Energy Community Founders—which aims to provide answers to numerous questions for municipalities and others interested in establishing energy communities in Slovakia. The event is specifically targeted at stakeholders, particularly potential founders of energy communities, who are or plan to be active in this field within Slovakia.

The current state of community energy will be presented by Richard Modrák from the Cluster of Energy Communities of Slovakia (KEKS), while practical experiences from abroad will be shared by Rudolf Köstler from the Austrian Energy Agency (AEA). Michal Ilovič from SIEA will then discuss the possibilities for financing energy communities. Each session will include time for questions and discussion, with further opportunities to engage during the breaks.

The event is aimed at stakeholders, particularly potential energy community founders, who are active or intend to be active in the field of energy communities in Slovakia.

Due to limited capacity, in-person attendance is restricted to 60 participants, with additional spaces available online. The registration link for the workshop is available here.

The event is organised by SAPI in cooperation with SIEA, Poláček & Partners, KEKS, and AEA, with the support of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI).
