International Conference about Ecosocial Education 2024

On the 26th and 27th September 2024 the second International Conference about ecosocial education, entitled “Education and Training for Climate Justice,” will be organised by EUKI project Classroom for Life. On the first day the two distinguished international experts, Dr. Daniel Christian Wahl and Dr. Mirela Sertić Perić, will be hosted.

The first day of the conference, 26th September 2024, will feature two distinguished international experts: Dr Daniel Christian Wahl and Dr Mirela Sertić Perić.

  • Dr Daniel C. Wahl, a leading figure in the reGeneration movement and author of Designing Regenerative Cultures, translated into seven languages, will deliver a session titled Bioregional Regeneration as an Implementation Pathway for Climate Justice. His talk will explore conventional sustainability approaches and propose bioregional regeneration as a more effective solution.
  • Dr Mirela Sertić Perić, an Associate Professor at the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Science, Department of Biology, will present Nurturing Sustainable Futures: Exploring Education for Sustainable Development. Her presentation will highlight the need to integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into educational systems, discussing how ESD aligns with global Sustainable Development Goals and national curricula, and its essential role in addressing global challenges.

The international segment of the conference will take place online on 26th September 2024, from 9:00 to 11:30 CET. Registration details can be found here.

The second day of the conference, 27th September 2024, will take place on-site in Koper, Slovenia, at the University of Primorska, Faculty of Education.

This day will focus on empowering primary and secondary school teachers from Slovenia. Two Slovenian experts, Dr Tomaž Grušovnik and Dr Dejan Meh Savić, will lead sessions. Dr Grušovnik will present Philosophy for Children and Environmental Ethics, while Dr Savić will explain how and why climate justice is essential to addressing and overcoming the climate crisis. Following the sessions, a roundtable with decision-makers and stakeholders in the Slovenian school system will discuss integrating sustainability and climate literacy into education. The day will conclude with six parallel workshops, facilitated by sustainability, climate, and education experts from various Slovenian organisations.
