Second National Workshop on Energy Communities in Hungary

The COMMENCE project aims to promote, facilitate and support energy communities in the V4 region. In Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia, national experts have been mapping the barriers and opportunities for energy communities and the impact of their activities on local communities, the public grid and current energy trading systems. This one-year project phase allows the consortium to play an active role in supporting the emerging energy communities in the Central Europe. Since around the turn of the year 2024/2025, the partners have been finalising national guideline documents, which are refined through two participatory workshops per country.

The 1st Hungarian National Workshop took place in October 2024. At this event, MTVSZ explored the possibilities of energy communities, learnt from the local experiences of the project’s professional mentor, the Austrian Energy Agency, and the Czech partner Frank Bold Society, and subsequently finalised the draft version of the Hungarian National Energy Community Guideline on its basis. The guideline document for Hungary will be introduced to expert guests at the 2nd National Workshop in Hungary on 26 February 2025, then after the workshop MTVSZ will finalise and publish the document online and in printed versions.

In Hungary, there are currently 10 registered energy communities, one of which was supported by the professional assistance of COMMENCE project partner MTVSZ.
