From Maribor to Tuzla: Building Local Capacity for Cleaner Air

Topics: Climate Policy Climate Strategies and Plans

Countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina Slovenia

Through EUKI project SAGT, the Slovenian city of Maribor supported Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in developing its first Green Transition Strategy. Both cities share a similar industrial background, making knowledge transfer highly practical. In 2024–2025, targeted capacity-building activities helped Tuzla’s administration to address key challenges such as air pollution, heating systems and urban transport. Study visits, public events and tailored guidance enabled local staff to draft a strategy that will be adopted in the next planning cycle. The project created lasting institutional capacity and provides a concrete roadmap for reducing emissions and improving air quality at city level.
