LED Lighting Cuts Energy Use in Three Municipalities

Topics: Energy Transition and Climate-Neutral Buildings

Countries: Germany Latvia Poland

Thanks to the EUKI-funded cross-border cooperation project, schools in Ķekava (Latvia), Bordesholm (Germany), and Gostyń (Poland) replaced outdated lighting systems with energy-efficient LED technology between 2020 and 2022. This not only improved lighting quality and learning conditions but also reduced electricity use and operating costs. Inspired by this success, municipalities expanded LED upgrades to other public buildings and street lighting, continuing energy savings beyond the project’s end.
