How to address Mobility Challenges in Latvia?

Across Latvia’s rural regions, limited public transport and car dependency shape everyday life, often leaving residents with few affordable and accessible mobility options. As climate targets tighten and social inequalities become more visible, the question of how to ensure fair, climate-friendly mobility in sparsely populated areas is becoming increasingly urgent. Rēzekne municipality illustrates these challenges particularly clearly – from poor cycling infrastructure to gaps in public transport information.

The video-recording and publication, developed in the context of the knowledge-sharing event hosted by Zaļā brīvība in Rēzekne, explore practical pathways towards more inclusive mobility. Drawing on research insights, local case studies and policy perspectives, they highlight solutions such as transport on demand, digital tools for real-time information, and targeted support through Latvia’s Social Climate Plan. Together, they show how locally adapted, community-led approaches can reduce transport poverty while supporting climate goals.
