Cities Driving Circular Behavior

This workshop examined how Urban Resource Centers (URC) can drive circular behaviour in cities by sharing practical lessons, project insights, and best practices through interactive peer exchange.

Summary

The workshop conducted by Circular Berlin explored the role of circular economy principles in urban development through the example of Urban Resource Centers (URC). Participants worked in groups focused on market, culture, and governance, discussing challenges, key drivers, and the impacts created through collaboration between stakeholders and URCs. Collaboration between public and private actors, organizations, and businesses was identified as essential for successful circular initiatives. The public sector was recognized as a key enabler, especially in early stages, through funding, infrastructure, and supportive programs. Flexible frameworks such as living labs were valued, while transparency and involvement of NGOs was highlighted to build trust and avoid greenwashing. URCs impacts included raising awareness, empowering communities, creating local jobs, supporting environmental goals, and improving wellbeing, reinforcing the link between circular practices and behavioral change.
