Analytical Report on the Demand for Sustainable Investments in Bulgaria

dflip

EUKI project Implementation of the EU Reforms on Retail Investing for the Green Transition assesses how Bulgaria, Estonia and Romania are strengthening sustainable financial literacy and market conditions to channel retail savings into financial products with high potential for greenhouse gas reduction.

The report “Analytical Report on the Demand for Sustainable Investments in Bulgaria” reviews investor attitudes, awareness, and preferences for sustainable financial products in the context of EU retail investment reforms and sustainability disclosure requirements. It analyses findings from focus groups, interviews, and nationwide surveys to understand how retail investors perceive sustainable, value-aligned, and impact-oriented investments. The study finds that interest in sustainable investing is emerging, particularly among younger generations, but knowledge of sustainable finance concepts remains limited and understanding of impact mechanisms is weak. While many respondents express willingness to align investments with environmental and social values, lack of clear information, limited financial literacy, and low familiarity with sustainability labels hinder broader market uptake. Without targeted education, improved disclosure by financial institutions, and stronger communication on sustainability features, current approaches risk slowing the development of retail sustainable investment markets.
