Czechia’s Draft Penalty Rules for violations of the EU Methane Regulation

Published by Ecologic Institute with the support of the project partners Centre for Transport and Energy and Environmental Defense Fund Europe, this study evaluates Czechia’s draft penalty rules for enforcing the EU Methane Regulation., this study evaluates Czechia’s draft penalty rules for enforcing the EU Methane Regulation. The analysis finds that, despite some progress, Czechia faces major gaps in enforcement powers, penalty design, and administrative readiness. Minimum and maximum fines are not sufficiently dissuasive, key sanctions are missing, and the delayed legislative process risks weakening compliance and creating distortions in the internal market.
