Feasibility Study: Renewable-Based District Heating System in Bitola

dflip

EUKI project “Renewable Power-to-Heat in the Bitola Region” prepares the ground for a climate-neutral district heating network in and around Bitola, North Macedonia. It delivers a feasibility study that guides the transformation of the heating sector, addresses planning and investment barriers, and highlights the social and economic benefits of decarbonised heat for regional development.

The feasibility study confirms that a renewable-based district heating system in Bitola is technically and economically feasible.
Highlights included:
• The potential for large-scale heat pumps to fully supply Bitola’s heating needs.
• Integration of solar PV and biogas for a net-zero heating system.
• Economic viability under grant-based and low-interest financing models.
• Political priorities for a just and renewable energy transition in the Western Balkans.
