Powering up Central and Eastern Europe

EUKI project „Local Leaders for the Next Generation“ aims to speed up energy transition and decarbonisation in Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, and Slovakia using EU funds. It evaluates local needs, offers successful examples, and fosters cooperation and education to inspire local authorities. Collaborating with governments, civil society, and European allies, it builds capacities and promotes high-quality energy solutions to achieve EU Green Deal goals.

This report analyses the clean energy transition in eight Central and Eastern European countries: Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. It highlights the diverse impacts of the EU’s Green Deal, which blends climate ambition with financial support, showcasing regulatory and market-based approaches and financial schemes. The report summarises advancements and challenges over the past five years, emphasising the role of prosumers and the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility in phasing out fossil fuels.
