As part of Circular Week (21-25 October 2024), the Circular Construction Day will take place on 23rd October 2024 in Warsaw, Poland. Organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Germany in Warsaw, this satellite event will focus on the urgent need to integrate circular economy practices into the construction sector, in line with recent EU directives aimed at reducing environmental impacts and resource depletion.

The event will discuss the development of climate-neutral construction based on best practices and experiences from Germany. It aims to build a bridge between Polish and German representatives across the construction sector, facilitating discussions on promising solutions that will support the implementation of the Fit for 55 package and promote the transformation towards circular economy models, considering local environmental, geopolitical, and social conditions.

Key objectives include increasing the representation of circular building principles in public sector procurement, encouraging the use of secondary materials in the construction industry, and enhancing the collection and recycling of materials through regional material registers.

Speakers

The event will be organised in an expert roundtable format, featuring decision-makers from the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, and local administrations.

During the event, the main findings from EUKI project CirCon4Climate will be presented. Other invited participants include the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER), Polish Green Building Council, German and Polish architects such as Prof. Dr. Matthias Haase and Thomas Rau, and German industry representatives from Hochtief, Knauf, and The Viessmann Group. The Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP) will also be represented.
