Participants will explore the process of implementing the 15-minute city concept from multiple stakeholder perspectives.

Description

The increasingly popular urban planning model of the 15-minute city proposes organizing urban space so that residents can access all their daily needs within a 15-minute walk, bike ride, or public transport journey. The concept is built on reduced dependency on cars, increased safety, and improved quality of life for residents of all ages.

However, what does it actually take to implement such a model? Zoning regulations, limited public space, political will, entrenched car-oriented infrastructure, and competing stakeholder interests present significant challenges.

In this interactive workshop, participants will explore the process of implementing the 15-minute city concept from multiple stakeholder perspectives – including politicians, urban planners, civil society representatives, and residents. Using the real-life example of Prague’s seventh district, the workshop will examine both the challenges and opportunities that arise in practice.

The workshop focuses on translating the 15-minute city concept into practical implementation. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the roles different stakeholders play in decision-making processes and the complexities of urban transformation.

After a short introduction and moderated discussion of key considerations, participants will take part in a stakeholder simulation exercise. They will represent different urban actors, develop arguments, and engage in a simulated decision-making process.
The workshop offers hands-on insights into urban governance dynamics while strengthening participiants’ understanding of stakeholder interests and policy negotiation.
