Technical Note: Topics of Interest in Context of Modelling for 2050 Long-Term Strategies in the EU and its Member States

When developing decarbonization scenarios, assumptions need to be made, future developments anticipated and technological and economic potentials evaluated. To increase transparency regarding the requirements of the models and to enable an exchange among modelers, the Technical Dialogue was established under the Climate Recon 2050 project and 18 topic clusters for future workshop subjects came up.

Factsheet: Tax Deduction Scheme (Belgium)

The Belgian tax deduction scheme for energy saving investments is currently the only policy instrument at national level aimed at promoting energy efficiency in the industry. The tax deduction scheme targets primarily energy efficiency measures, but also other forms of emission reductions in sectors inside and outside the EU ETS. Adelphi and Navigant examined the transferability to the German context within the framework of the BEACON project.

Technical Note: Low-Emission Mobility & Transport

Transport accounts for about 25% of Europe’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2015 and the emissions mainly stem from road transport fuel. The future Energy Scouts will learn to analyse and reveal saving potentials for energy and resources in their companies. The practical training phase of the qualification offers participants the opportunity to implement their new skills in their company.

Discussion Paper: Enhancing the quality of life in Polish cities with energy and resource efficient revitalization

Poland is not exempt from the burden of negative urban pattern. As a result of nearly 80 years of unsustainable development Polish cities are facing major challenges in regard to congestion, low-stack pollution and depopulation.

This discussion paper by adelphi and the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA) aims to support the overall upgrade in the quality of life of citizens in Polish cities and infuse energy and resource efficiency into the heart of Polish revitalization practice by:

  • introducing the legal and conceptual framework for revitalization in Poland and on the European level;
  • overviewing the social, economic and environmental benefits of a holistic approach to the revitalization processes, which focuses on energy and resource efficiency;
  • featuring selected good practices of successful revitalizations from Poland and Germany.

Report: How to Reduce Youth Unemployment by Fighting Climate Change? A Study in Greece and Southern Spain

Youth unemployment in southern Spain and Greece is high. At the same time, municipalities are looking for specialists in the energy sector. Numerous buildings have to be renovated and the use of solar energy promises great advantages for the coming years. The ZEW-Klima project studied the potential and feasibility of a targeted training of young job-seeking experts for locally required tasks. These could, for example, carry out energy audits at schools. Overall, the study authors estimate that climate action could create a six-figure number of jobs in Spain and Greece.
