Technical Note: Transparency of Modelling

Energy system models play an important role in the process of deriving climate strategies and policies. Full transparency in calculating these long-term scenarios is essential for credibility and reproducibility of the scenarios and the respective climate strategies. Open data and models furthermore enable broad collaboration and increase efficiency by avoiding duplication of work. The technical note gives an overview of the openness aspects of energy modelling, practical advice for progress in that field and summarizes remaining challenges and possible measures. It is part of EUKI project Climate Recon.

Study tour: What can be learnt from German Energiewende?

“What can be learnt from German Energiewende?” was the guiding question for a study tour of Latvian officials to Berlin in October 2018. The video presents some take-aways. The trip was part of the EUKI project “Accelerating the energy transformation of Central and Eastern Europe and learning from the German experience” with the CEE Bankwatch Network.

Technical Note: Topics of Interest in Context of Modelling for 2050 Long-Term Strategies in the EU and its Member States

When developing decarbonization scenarios, assumptions need to be made, future developments anticipated and technological and economic potentials evaluated. To increase transparency regarding the requirements of the models and to enable an exchange among modelers, the Technical Dialogue was established under the Climate Recon 2050 project and 18 topic clusters for future workshop subjects came up.
