Renovation and Retrofitting of Old Buildings in Times of Climate Crisis

dflip

This guide by EUKI project Mitigating Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Heritage Buildings explains and presents the wide range of possible solutions (technologies and materials) to be implemented in each building element to minimise its environmental impact.

Better use of the existing building stock is one of the main ways to reduce the need for new construction and thus reduce the carbon footprint of the building sector. This can only be achieved by increasing the usability and energy performance of old buildings to extend their usefulness. On this issue, this publication provides guidance for public and private investors on choosing the optimal scope of renovation measures, technologies and materials to reduce carbon emissions during work and maintenance phases in the building sector.
