Neglecting public involvement in the process of Europe’s Recovery and Green Transition might exacerbate existing inequalities and further erode European democracy. It will limit the abilities to make a truly fair and sustainable Europe a reality.

This launch event hosted by EUKI project Local Leaders for the Next Generation will introduce the report “No Recovery without Citizens: Why Public Involvement is Key to Europe’s Green Transformation” recently published by the project team. The report shows how Europe’s recovery is not delivering the green transformation because citizens have been marginalised from the design and implementation of corresponding investments. It is published by the Citizens’ Observatory for Green Deal Financing coalition. It includes country case studies from Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland and Spain, including information on projects receiving financing despite harming the climate, biodiversity and gender equality. The report also makes recommendations on how to improve citizens’ involvement both at national and EU level.
