Why Buildings are important for Climate Action

The building sector within the EU is responsible for 40 percent of total energy consumption and 36 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve European climate targets, both the energy demand and the carbon emissions of buildings need to decrease significantly. Of particular importance in this context are school buildings, as they are places of high social interest.

EUKI project UPGREAT – Training Tool for More Efficient Schools develops training programs for local authorities and their technical staff, young engineers, students at technical vocational schools or universities, and civil society in general to promote the comprehensive energy retrofit of school buildings in Greece and Cyprus. UPGREAT’s latest image video shows why the energy retrofit of school buildings is so important in Greece and Cyprus.
