Energy Scout Projects Awarded in Athens
The first place was awarded to Athina Gonata from Tora Lub Ltd., a supplier of lubricants for the shipping industry, with four planned energy-saving measures for the company’s office building. A digital smart meter will enable around 8% reduction across all areas of power consumption, and smart thermostats are expected to cut the energy consumption of the twelve air conditioning units by around 30%. A new LED lighting concept reduces energy consumption and therefore lighting costs by around 87%. In addition, a new small rooftop PV system is expected to generate around 4,500 kWh per year.
Eleni Dikaiou from Metaloumin SA, a manufacturer of aluminium beams and profiles, also convinced the jury and secured the second place. She converted the company’s lighting to LED, and thereby saves 71% of the energy necessary for lighting. In addition, she organised trainings for her colleagues focusing on the careful use of energy and resources. For example, she lowered the amount of paper used for printing by pointing out alternatives and introduced an internal competition for her fellow employees.
The third place was shared by Evita and Sofia Kalfopoulou from Tourhotel SA, which runs the 35-room Achilleas Hotel in Athens amongst others. The sisters discovered potential for optimisation in the areas of heating, cooling and hot water. The fuel oil demand is expected to be reduced by heat pumps and more efficient air condition systems. The investment in the heat pumps will be amortised in about 2 years.
About 30 guests, including representatives of the German Embassy to Greece, Germany Trade and Invest as well as lecturers of the Energy Scouts followed the honouring of the best Greek Scouts from Athens. The next Energy Scout trainings already start in Thessaloniki in February. Find more information about how to sign up here.
