International Sustainable Development Ambassador’s Camp

International camp
Even before the start of the camp the team of youngsters including a team from Germany as well as colleagues from RCE Oldenburger Münsterland – Competence Center for Education for Sustainable Development e.V. has participated in an online introduction event where participants got to know a little bit more about the participating countries, learn about the ambassador’s programme and 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
During four days of international camp young people were involved in a great number of activities, trips, workshops, and team-building activities together with camp leaders from CARDET (Center for the Advancement of Research & Development in Educational Technology) and LCYC (Lithuanian Children and Youth Centre). Together the team has visited Troodos Geopark, Cape Greko Environmental Centre, and Larnaca’s Salt Lake. At each location, discussions took place on the topic of human intervention’s effect on nature and what negative effects could be visible in near future. At each location, a group of youngsters had discussions together, participated in additional tasks and workshops in order to get a better understanding of the topic.

As well as some trips participants were involved in a four-day design thinking workshop. During this workshop, four teams of participants have worked on their sustainable ideas in areas of Food, Consumption, Mobility, and Education for Sustainable Development. Each team approached their topic using the design thinking method and slowly understanding an issue, making needed research of the field, brainstorming, creating a prototype, and finally presenting their idea! On the last day of the camp, a presentation evening was organized for each team to present their idea and tell the created story. Each team came up with clever and fun solutions within their topic and carried the presentation in a creative manner.

Overall the workshop allowed participants to work in mixed international teams and prepared them for future initiatives at their local communities. This simulation equipped them with needed brainstorming, teamwork, and problem-solving tools needed for them to successfully proceed with the ambassador’s programme and further planned activities of the project.
Project team is very happy to meet an international ambassador’s team and can not wait to share their following initiatives and projects!
