Building Fire-smart Landscapes in the Mediterranean Region

From January to September 2022, over 750.000 hectares of land burnt in the EU area leading to an increase of wildfire activity and intensity with devastating environmental and socio-economic impacts. 

With this analysis, EUKI project MediterRE3 deciphers the problems behind the wildfires in Europe, naming landscape, economic or governance barriers as additional challenging side effects. Most of the content is contributed to the solution of the problem. With five best case studies, the analysis presents different approaches on how to regain the resilience and sustainably manage the biodiversity of European landscapes.
